In a differential they set the endplay of the gears and control how far a shaft can float in its housing, and getting that right is what makes a diff run quietly and last. Too much float and the gears wander out of mesh under load; too little and the assembly binds, runs hot and drags on the drivetrain.

At 0.15mm these are thin enough for fine adjustment, which is usually what a gear mesh problem needs. The fix for a diff that runs noisy is almost always a tenth of a millimetre of shim rather than a new part.

Stainless is worth having here because these sit inside oil-filled assemblies and take constant load, and it will not corrode or deform the way a softer shim can. Note that Kyosho makes a similar 0.15mm shim in a much smaller 4x10mm size, so check the diameters, not just the thickness.
