LIONEL 6119 DL&W WORK CABOOSE, RED, 55-56
The Lionel D.L. & W. Work Caboose No. 6119-100 was available from 1957 until 1966 and again in the last year of the Post War Period: 1969. Listed in the Lionel Service Manual under the number 6119-110, it had an unpainted GRAY tool bin and a RED cab with a short stack that was mounted on a BLACK stamped sheet metal chassis. Early issues had bar-end trucks with a magnetic tabbed coupler that changed to AAR trucks with a disc coupler in later issues. There are seven variations:
Variation A: Sheet metal chassis is painted BLACK, heat-stamped WHITE lettering, with bar-end trucks.
Variation B: Sheet metal chassis is painted BLACK, rubber-stamped WHITE lettering, with AAR trucks.
Variation C: Sheet metal chassis is chemically blackened that has WHITE rubber-stamped serif "LIONEL" lettering.
Variation D: Cab is painted RED with AAR trucks. Most of this variation have one solid and one operating disc coupler. 1964 production.
Variation E: Sheet metal chassis is chemically blackened with no lettering and AAR trucks, cab plate that is heat-stamped "BUILT BY / LIONEL" and has a painted RED cab. Early 1966 production.
Variation F: Larger logo and lettering plate labeled "BUILT BY / LIONEL" and a chemically blackened sheet metal chassis with no lettering that has AAR trucks. Late 1966 production.
Variation G: Has a PALE RED cab with WHITE heat-stamped Santa Fe logo, chemically blackened sheet metal chassis with no lettering and AAR trucks and a blank builders plate. The cab is identical to the No. 6130. Lionel was attempting to use up a variety of odd component parts to make this caboose part of the sets that were issued in 1969.
