LIONEL 624 C&O NW2 SWITCHER, 52-54
LIONEL 624 C&O NW2 SWITCHER, 52-54
The Lionel Chesapeake & Ohio No. 624 Switcher was available from 1952 until 1954. This switcher has a painted BLUE body with unpainted YELLOW smoke stacks and heat-stamped cab number. The "CHESAPEAKE & OHIO" lettering and the C & O logo on the cab are decals. It was equipped with a three position directional unit whose control lever was adjustable from the bottom of the die-cast metal chassis that has a YELLOW stripe, vertical worm drive motor that powered two axles with Magnatraction, interior lighting at both ends, and electronic couplers. There is no operating horn on this diesel.
The lettering decal on the side is often found with portions of it missing and this engine is difficult to find with the YELLOW stripe on the BLUE painted frame intact. This switcher is an excellent runner.
There are two variations:
Variation A: The side hand rails are held in place by ten stanchions.
Variation B: The side hand rails are held in place by three stanchions.
Lionel issued this diesel for use on O27 Gauge track, but it will also operate on the larger radius curves of O Gauge track.
