A pack of five M3 x 14mm set screws, from Kyosho's universal hardware range.

A set screw, or grub screw, is headless. The whole body threads into the part so nothing protrudes above the surface. At most lengths that makes them shaft-locking fasteners, but at 14mm a set screw is doing something different: this length is long enough to work as a stud or a pivot post, threading right through one part and into another, or as an adjuster that can be wound in and out to set a position.

That makes length a genuinely important spec here rather than just a fitting detail. A 14mm grub screw is not a longer version of a 3mm one in function; it is used in different places entirely.

Where it is used as a shaft lock, the usual rules apply: seat the tip on a machined flat rather than the round of the shaft, and use thread lock, because vibration backs set screws out readily.

Note the pack contains five rather than ten, which is normal for the longer sizes. This supersedes the older Kyosho number 1160.
