A pair of muffler joining pipes in black, the flexible couplers that connect the exhaust header to the muffler on a nitro car.

This coupling has a harder job than it looks. It has to seal a hot, pressurised exhaust joint while allowing the header and muffler to move relative to each other as the engine rocks on its mounts and the chassis flexes. A rigid joint there would simply crack, so the coupler absorbs that movement.

They are consumables. Heat cycling hardens them until they split, and once a coupler leaks the engine loses exhaust back pressure. That matters because a nitro engine relies on pressure from the exhaust to feed the fuel tank, so a leaking joint gives you a lean run, poor tuning that will not hold, and potentially engine damage. It also sprays oily residue across the chassis, which is usually the first sign you notice.

Two are supplied. Fitment is broad rather than model-specific: Kyosho lists this coupler across the DRX, DBX and DBX 2.0, DST, DMT and DRT, plus the V-One and Pure Ten 1/10 nitro on-road range.
