A pair of 6.8mm taper pivot balls for Kyosho's Inferno platform.

These are the balls that a linkage ball end snaps onto, used at suspension and steering pivot points throughout the car. The taper is what sets the standoff between the ball and the part it threads into, which means the ball is a geometry component as much as a fastener: its position determines where the link pivots and therefore how the suspension geometry behaves through its travel.

Pivot balls wear because they carry a lot of load through a very small contact area. The surface gradually galls and develops flat spots, and once that happens the ball end can no longer grip evenly. The joint develops play, and play at a suspension link translates directly into camber and toe that change under load. The result is a car that will not hold a consistent setup between runs.

At 6.8mm this is the smaller of Kyosho's two common taper ball sizes; the 7.8mm is a separate part. Two are supplied. Kyosho lists fitment across the Inferno MP-7.5, MP777, ST-R, Inferno GT and GT2, Inferno NEO and NEO 4.0 VE, and the Mad Force VE.
