Kyosho IFW149-02 63mm Big Bore Shock Shaft

The shaft is the polished rod that runs through the shock seals and carries the piston. It is one of the highest-precision parts on the car, because the seals ride directly on its surface and any nick, scratch or bend in it destroys the seal immediately. A damaged shaft is the single most common cause of a shock that will not stop leaking no matter how many times you rebuild it, and it is worth checking any shaft you are reusing by rolling it on a flat surface.

Shafts bend in the crashes that load the suspension sideways rather than vertically, and a shaft that is even slightly bent will bind in the seals, which shows up as a shock that does not extend smoothly under its own spring pressure.
