Kyosho IFW438-05 Rear Hub Carrier Setting Weight 5g

A pair of 5 gram setting weights that mount to the rear hub carriers on Kyosho's Inferno MP9 and MP10.

Adding weight this far outboard on the car does something quite specific. Because the mass sits directly above the rear contact patches, it increases the static load on the rear tires, which builds rear traction and makes the car more stable on power. It also raises the polar moment at the rear, which slows how quickly the car rotates and makes it feel more planted and less nervous through fast direction changes.

That is a genuine setup tool, not just ballast. On a low-grip or dusty track where the rear is spinning up out of corners, outboard rear weight is often more effective than changing springs or diff oil. The cost is that you are adding unsprung mass, which makes the suspension work harder over bumps, and the car is heavier overall.

At 5 grams each this is the lightest of the three steps Kyosho offers, so it is the subtle option for fine-tuning rather than a large change. Ten and fifteen gram versions are available separately. Two weights are supplied.
