Kyosho IHW14 Front Oil Damper Set Mini Inferno

This is the front oil damper set for the Kyosho Mini Inferno, an option upgrade over the plastic shocks supplied in the kit.

The difference between an oil-filled damper and a basic friction or spring-only shock is fundamental. An oil damper controls the speed at which the suspension compresses and rebounds, which is what stops the car pogoing after a bump or a landing. Without that control the chassis keeps oscillating after every input, and on a small-scale car that translates into a machine that skips across rough ground and lands unpredictably off jumps.

Oil shocks are also tunable in a way the stock parts are not. Changing oil weight alters damping directly, so you can match the car to a smooth carpet track or a rough outdoor surface.

Kyosho gives the shaft length as 33mm, the case length as 27mm and the ball end inner diameter as 5mm. This is the front pair specifically. Fitment covers the Mini Inferno, Mini Inferno 09, Mini Inferno Half 8 and Mini Inferno ST.
