Kyosho SX004 Spur Gear Mount Scorpion XXL VE

This is the spur gear mount for the Kyosho Scorpion XXL VE.

The spur gear mount is what carries the spur gear on the transmission shaft and holds it in correct alignment with the motor pinion. That alignment is the whole job. Gear mesh has to be set so the teeth engage on the correct part of the face, and if the mount lets the spur wobble or sit off-centre, the mesh changes as the gear rotates. The result is a gearbox that runs noisy, wears the spur unevenly, and eventually strips teeth.

On an electric car with a brushless motor the loads through this joint are high and delivered instantly, which makes a secure, true-running mount more important than it would be on a nitro machine where power builds more progressively.
