The gold colour code lets you identify the spring at a glance in the pit box rather than measuring it, which matters when you carry several rates.

Spring rate is the most fundamental suspension setting on any car. It carries the weight and determines how far the chassis moves for a given force, which sets ride height, how much the car dives under braking and rolls in a corner, and how much travel remains before it bottoms out.
