Walthers Cornerstone 933-2903 HO Modern Coaling Tower Kit

Refuel your steam fleet in style with the Walthers Cornerstone 933-2903 Modern Coaling Tower. Based on an Ogle design, this concrete tower became a focal point in engine terminals as larger engines outgrew older facilities. By the 1920s many railroads contracted outside firms to build new towers from concrete, a material that was affordable, fireproof and weatherproof, placing them in yards and along the mainline to refuel engines on the road.

The plastic 933-2903 features realistic concrete walls plus detailed chutes and mechanisms, and like the prototype it can serve three tracks at once for maximum service in minimum space. A coal delivery shed and decal signs are included, and because these sturdy towers were hard to demolish, the model can even stand as a scrapped relic in a contemporary scene. The tower measures 8-5/8 x 8-3/4 x 12-1/4" 21.5 x 21.8 x 30.6cm, with a dumphouse of 8-5/8 x 1-3/8 x 1-3/8" 21.5 x 3.4 x 3.4cm.
